United ISD Superintendent Dr. Gerardo Cruz stopped by Nye Elementary where he read a holiday book to children and explained that the best gift students could give their parents is learning and doing well in school.
He said that his wish for the children was that they stay safe during the holiday season. “I want them to continue to stay focused on their academics and continue to be kids and have fun every day and come to school every day. If kids aren’t coming to school, they are not learning,” Dr. Cruz added.
“I also want to thank our community and parents for committing their children to United ISD. We are one of the top districts in the region and my plan and focus is to continue doing that by growing and developing the principals at the campuses. We want to make sure we have quality teachers and that they are providing the best instruction for students,” Dr. Cruz said.
On Wednesday, the superintendent visited students in their classrooms to spread holiday cheer and deliver a personal message.
“The best gift that you can give to your parents is learning as much as you can and being successful,” he told the students
He also mentioned to students that he attended Nye Elementary.
“I came to Nye Elementary. I was just like you, sitting at my desk and wondering what am I going to do with my life. You need to have goals in your life and make decisions based on that goal,” Dr. Cruz said.
Dr. Cruz wasn’t the only special visitor on Wednesday.
Nye Elementary students’ eyes widened and jaws dropped as Santa and the Grinch popped into their classrooms to wish them Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
“Look! It’s Santa!” one student exclaimed while classmates with big grins waved and wished Santa a Merry Christmas. Santa and the Grinch arrived at the school in a giant red sleigh that was pulled by a Z93 truck.
