United ISD Promotes Linda Mireles to Principal of United Middle School

United Independent School District has officially named Linda Mireles the new principal of United Middle School, marking a proud milestone in her 23-year career with the district. Mireles has served as Assistant Principal at the campus for the past three years, playing a key role in its continued academic success.

“One of my biggest accomplishments at United Middle School was contributing to the administrative team that earned the campus an A rating for three consecutive years,” Mireles shared. “Another significant moment was being nominated for Assistant Principal of the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals. These milestones helped shape my journey and ultimately led me to this role.”

Her promotion is more than a career move—it’s a deeply personal achievement.

“United Middle School holds a special significance for me as the place where my leadership journey began, first as a school counselor and then as Assistant Principal,” she said. “This school is more than just a workplace; it’s my passion.”

Now at the helm, Mireles is focused on sustaining and elevating the school’s strong reputation.

“My primary goals are to ensure United Middle School continues its proud tradition as an A-rated campus and to cultivate a culture of high expectations and achievement,” she said. “Everything we do at UMS is driven by purpose and pride.”

With a vision rooted in both academic success and school culture, Mireles is committed to student achievement, staff empowerment, and community engagement.

“As principal, I will do everything I can to lead the students and staff positively and effectively,” she explained. “My role is to be an instructional leader, a culture builder, a manager, and a visionary guiding us toward continuous growth and success.”

Mireles’ career in education began as an elementary teacher at Ruiz and Killam Elementary schools. She later transitioned to counseling at Salinas and Ruiz, before joining United Middle School as a counselor, and eventually Assistant Principal. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Early Childhood with a Bilingual Certification, a master’s in School Counseling, and a Principal Certification—all from Texas A&M International University and Region One.

“I believe true leadership is rooted in empowering individuals, skillfully navigating situations, and making a genuine effort to connect with staff,” Mireles said. “Collaboratively, we will elevate the school to new heights, fostering a safe and positive environment for everyone.”

Beyond her professional life, Mireles is the daughter of Leonel and Norma De Hoyos and the youngest of their three children. She has a daughter, Alyssa Mireles, a junior at John B. Alexander High School, and she is engaged to Gilberto Cardenas, Associate Principal at AHS, 9th Grade Campus.

In her free time, she enjoys daily walks, music, watching Friends, and spending quality time with her family at games and community events.

With her deep ties to the school and a clear vision for the future, Mireles is ready to lead United Middle School into its next chapter. “When you believe, the impossible becomes possible,” she said.
