United Independent School District (UISD) has been honored as one of the top 12 school districts in Texas for its outstanding initiatives, earning a spot in the Texas School Business magazine’s 18th annual “Bragging Rights” 2024-2025 special issue. UISD is also the only district selected in Region One!
The district’s United Against Vaping campaign has been key to this achievement. In an effort to combat this growing problem, Rebecca Coss-Morales, Associate Superintendent of District Administration and Student Services, has made it a priority to launch several district-wide initiatives. “United ISD acknowledges the dangers of the vaping epidemic, and we are committed to keeping our students safe while raising awareness of the serious consequences,” said Morales. “Being featured in this prestigious issue is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team.”

Each December, Texas School Business selects school districts to highlight in its Bragging Rights issue, which showcases exemplary programs that are making a significant impact on the lives of Texas students and communities.
“Nominations for school district programs across Texas poured in this year, and each one deserves to be noticed,” said Texas School Business Editorial Director, Dacia Rivers. “It’s our hope that the 12 districts we chose inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”
The proactive measures taken by UISD include the formation of the United Against Vaping task force, installing vaping detectors across middle and highschools, extensive district and public outreach on the dangers of vaping, and most importantly, gathering direct input from the district's Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. “I am immensely proud of the work UISD is doing to address vaping,” Superintendent of Public Schools, Dr. Gerardo Cruz added. “The partnerships we’ve formed with different community organizations, combined with the valuable input from our students have been instrumental in making this initiative a success.”
