It’s safe to say that United ISD Elementary Schools sure are lovin’ McTeacher’s Night! For over a decade, the district has partnered up with McDonald’s of Laredo for this great fundraising event. It provides an opportunity for local educators, students and their families to come together and support their schools while enjoying a meal at McDonald’s.
On Wednesday morning, McDonald’s of Laredo president, Mike Marasco, joined by local McDonald’s representatives, UISD Board Secretary, Michelle Molina, Superintendent, Dr. Gerardo Cruz, UISD administrators and elementary school leaders gathered to celebrate the event’s success. McDonald’s proudly presented checks to each participating school, which collectively raised $5,830. “We’re blessed that UISD continues this partnership,” said Marasco, who owns 13 of the local McDonald’s restaurants. “It’s a great way to bring the students, the families and all of us together on a neutral site, I call it. At McDonald’s we’re known as a fun place to be and meet.” Through the McTeacher's Night partnership, McDonald’s donates 20% of the sales from each restaurant back to the schools.

Recently, several UISD teachers, principals, counselors and school volunteers spent an evening at assigned McDonald's locations across town, ready to serve up more than just Big Macs. With personalized school posters in hand they greeted students and their families, while encouraging the community to stop by the restaurant where they would then take their order and serve their meals with a big friendly smile.

“Thank you McDonalds partners for collaborating with us. Making sure we establish relationships with our community and making it known that McDonald’s is a partner in education!” Dr. Gerardo Cruz exclaimed. “The funds raised help support our schools with additional classroom resources, special programs and exciting projects that make a real difference in the lives of our students.”
The event continues to be a shining example of how partnerships can shape a brighter future for all. “It’s a fun atmosphere, students are excited to see us there,” said Michelle Cantu, principal at Gutierrez Elementary. “The collaboration goes beyond the classroom walls. In participating in the McTeacher’s Night we strengthen the partnership between educators and families, demonstrating that working together we help the students, our number one priority.”
UISD schools that participated were: Borchers, Centeno, Cuellar, Gutierrez, Muller, Perez, Ruiz and San Isidro Elementary Schools.
